Tribute to Pretty Little Liars, Jenna Addition

Many know of the Freeform TV series, Pretty Little Liars, and for me this show has been a hit ever since it premiered back when I was a freshman in high school.  Let’s flash forward eight years, now I am graduating college, and this series is still a smash hit.  Sadly, it is coming to a close, but fear not… this post is all things Pretty Little Liars fans will love.

I am obsessed with shades.  Now when I say shades, I mean sunglasses or sunnies, whatever you call them, I am obsessed.  Some of the looks you will see are somewhat similar to what the character Jenna would wear.  Below you will see a slide show of this Jenna inspired look.

I am a firm believer that every outfit you wear, have one item that is your splurge item.  For this look it is the Tiffany & Co. sunglasses.  However, you can find a similar look here.  They are black, everyone needs at least one pair of black sunglasses.

I love a great high waisted skinny jean as well.  These have a straight across knee cut on each leg, adds more of a rocker distressed vibe to them.  You can find them just about anywhere, but these specific ones are from Express.  I love Express, H&M, Forever 21, any of those kinds of stores, even ASOS, are great to find similar styles for a reasonable cost.  Black skinnies can go with just about anything, much like what I paired it with, which is a white T and a long grey sweater.  It is simple, yet the boots and shades really make the whole look pop.

Now the boots that I have on in this look are Michael Kors, but I did tag a different brand as well.  Any black bootie is great to have and can be worn with so many different outfits and looks.  I think booties are something everyone needs in their closet.  The great thing about this look, too, is that you can wear each item with so many different looks.  Each piece is simple and so diverse.

I hope you all enjoy this Jenna inspired look, more Pretty Little Liar outfits to come as the series comes to a close.

Spring Is In the Air

Spring is by far one of my favorite seasons of the year.  It’s fresh.  The sun is warm.  The breeze is still cool.  Plus it is acceptable to wear those pretty long maxi dresses again!

This one that I am wearing is directly from Altar’d State.  It is by far one of my favorite stores to shop at.  I can guarantee you that you can find me walking out of that store with at least two shopping bags.  All of the items there are adorable, so ladies… and boyfriends… go get something from Altar’d State, you won’t regret it.

In addition to this maxi, there are some other long, pretty dresses I am going to link for you all to go check out.  For me, personally, it is extremely tough finding dresses that are long enough since I am 5’9, plus I love a good wedge heel, so it’s a struggle.  However, Fig Leaf is a store I have fallen in love with.  I will do a separate post just to praise them for all of the cute items they have, specifically the romper I will be sharing with you all, but they have long enough dresses for those tall girls, like myself.

The off the shoulder look is a huge trend this season, you see a lot of off the shoulder, flowy tops too, and I must say I am obsessed.  If you are one that thinks you cannot pull it off, much like myself, you are WRONG!  You most certainly can.  I was timid at first then quickly gave myself a little pep talk and said, “Tess you are one who takes risks with fashion and if you don’t try it out you will regret it.”  Well sure enough, I tried it out and loved it.  Plus, it is wedding season and you can easily wear this look to an outdoor wedding.

Hope this fashion trend makes it to your closet!

Olive

Something about the color olive just makes me smile.  It is a color that, I believe, anyone can wear.  You can see in my previous post with my oversized deep olive green sweater with my faux fur vest.  It brings a glow to everyone, and a good glow at that.  There are different shades of it, yes, which is why I also believe finding the perfect shade of olive green is key.

Countless times I have gotten compliments on this long peacoat, that coincidentally I bought at American Eagle.  It is amazing what you will find at stores where you think they only print their logo on the clothes, tribute to the middle school days, but you will be surprised that you can find very cute and flattering pieces in these stores still.  For me personally, as I have gotten older I have noticed that Abercrombie & Fitch and even American Eagle have done away with a lot of the printing the logo of the store on items.  It is appealing to the older demographic and I also have to state that the jeans featured in these images are American Eagle.  They are the jeans that work for me.  I have tried other name brand jeans and designer jeans, but American Eagle fits my body type.  I love clothing, I love designers, obviously, but if you find a store or brand that works for you, stick with it!  No shame in sticking with the brand of jeans and even clothing that I have been faithful with since freshman year of high school.

Now let’s breakdown this outfit.  This outfit falls under layers because when the winter months come my way, the sweaters are broken out along with my suede boots, peacoat, and hats.  I love a long peacoat, in fact I have a longer peacoat then this one photographed, and it works for taller girls.  I do not advice petite girls to wear a long peacoat because it can distort your look, and you want something to elongate the leg.  Like I said, I bought this peacoat at American Eagle, and I linked the site for all of those interested to see, but you can also check out this peacoat, it is a military style peacoat that is much similar to the one I wear.

When it comes to hats, I love simplicity.  This basic black felt fedora can be found at Forever21, but you can find one similar from here from TopShop.  The black fedora helps tie my black suede buckle shoes together.  It causes the human eye to work from the top and go all the way to the bottom.  It helps unify the look, which is what you want to do.  I found these, again, at Forever21 by chance when I was in Washington D.C., but you can find a pair very similar at Nordstrom .  The buckles make up the excuse to not wear any jewelry with this look.  You do not want your outfit to be super flashy or make it out like you’re trying to hard, don’t do that!  Be simplistic, just like your hat, and let the statement boots speak for themselves.

Until next time…

Faux Fur is Purrr-fect

Style varies with everyone. It is a way to express yourself the way you see fit. For me when the weather gets cold, I love to layer. Nine times out of ten I am dressed in layers with an oversized sweater, vest, boots, hat, and I will even wear my signature long pea coat. The winter months are my favorite because it’s my excuse to wear boots and sweaters everyday. Plus the right set of boots can turn any average girl into her super model alter ego.

Olive greens are a nice winter season color that should be in everyone’s closet. It has the power to give everyone a certain glow and I can guarantee you will get compliments wearing it. This specific sweater has slits up the side, allowing the back of the sweater to be longer than the front. This feature makes the sweater look less bulky, plus gives anyone wearing it a waistline. Now you can wear it by itself, but I like to pair it with a vest.  The specific sweater I am wearing is from Express, however I tagged one very similar to it that will work just as great.

I strongly believe that every girl should have a nice faux fur vest in her closet. It can change the entire dynamic of any girls outfit. You can wear them with dresses, sweaters, or casual shirts. If I wear my vest with a casual top, I will often times pair it with a statement necklace, but since I am wearing a hat with this look, that is my statement piece.

Hats are my all time favorite fashion piece and I am not talking about ball caps. Hats are just as important as any other piece of your outfit if you wear them. Here I have a soft grey, round top, floppy hat with a laced leather band around it. The hat helps tie together my sweater and vest. It is just a nice touch to have, especially when you pair two dark clothing pieces together, a lighter piece of apparel can help soften the look.

Footwear is important as well. I love pairing looks with tall boots, such as the ones in this piece. I do not wear a lot of silver jewelry, gold is my go-to and when I saw these boots, I knew I had to have them. The gold touch to the boots can help make-up for the fact I did not wear any jewelry with this look. There is something about an understated look that just makes my heart skip a beat. You never want to be to flashy, but little accents are a must, much like these boots.

Black & Gold

That’s the beauty of fashion. You can make it how you want, because at the end of the day, you have to love what you wear and own it.

For the look I have given you guys today, I am wearing a black and gold jumpsuit with black suede booties and a black with leather detail jacket paired with a dome shaped umbrella. When it rains it is always good to pair your outfit with a cute umbrella. Plus, clear umbrellas can be found at many different places.

As I break down this outfit, I must say I love jumpsuits, they’re every tall girls friend. They help elongate the legs and are super comfy. This jumpsuit can also be worn year round because it is sleeveless and can be worn in the summer months. The specific jumpsuit I am wearing in this image is actually from Old Navy, but I tagged one that is similar to it from Revolve. Now to the shoes.

Suede is a huge trend this season, so these black suede booties are a hit, and so reasonable too. The specific ones I am wearing are from Aldos, but I have tagged a pair of Steve Madden booties that are just as amazing. They can go with jeans, or you can dress them up like I did.

Since it is winter, this black leather patched jacket helps dress up the jumpsuit and is perfect for a girl’s night out on the town.  I don’t shy away from mix matching metals.  The jumpsuit may have gold in it, but the buttons on the jacket may be silver, you can tie the metals together through jewelry and the overall outfit will still look fierce.

Macaroons and Maroon

I do not know about you, but I love maroon.  It is one of those universal colors that everyone can pull off, yes even red heads.  It is a color that will truly never go out of style.  It can be worn as a shirt or sweater color, in a dress, or even pants.

For this piece, it is featured in a dress.  It is a cute baby doll dress paired with navy blue flats and a statement piece necklace.  Believe it or not, the necklace is from a boutique that many girls are familiar with, Francesca’s and the flats are featured from Gap.  The dress is from a boutique known as, “Shop Maude“.  I stumbled upon them via instagram and have been hooked ever sense.  They have an array of different clothing pieces that will please different fashion sense.  They are really good with staying on trend through the year as well.  That is actually where I find a lot of my pieces, following different and unique clothing boutiques.  They sometimes hold the most unique pieces and when I can’t find something I am looking for at Forever 21 or H&M, I simply just type in one of the boutiques and will find it there.  I love having those kinds of different places under my belt because you know you are getting something unique and something that many people won’t have in their own closets.

Blue Prints

Bold prints are fun to wear, but let’s face it, it does take time to get used to. My advice to you is, BE BOLD! You can find the prettiest prints on anything. It can be a scarf, a shirt, a pair of pants, or even a dress. They can be scary to approach, but I promise you when you put them on and wear them out in public, you’re going to get compliments. However, it is all about finding the pattern that works best for you.

This specific print gives more of a boho chic vibe. I find these kinds of dresses in boutiques, that are reasonably priced, and not your typical name brand store. My wardrobe is a mix between your name brand stores, which will be featured along the way of my page, and the other half of my wardrobe is from cute boutiques. Altar’d State is a darling little store that sells many different clothes from many different companies, which is where this dress and lace slip came from.

Notice how I slipped that in there, no pun intended, but this dress could have been worn by itself, however, the lace detail adds a little extra to the dress. You may be thinking, lace and bold prints OMG this is too much! For some it may, but jump out of your comfort zone and be BOLD!

All of the pieces that you will find on my page are all affordable. Something I love to tell people, “you can have champagne taste, but you can find that outfit and recreate it on a beer budget.”
